Books for Children & Youth 

Adopt-a-Stream Foundation provides educational programs and publications on stream protection, restoration and monitoring, undertakes restoration projects (mostly in Snohomish County but also with Maxwelton Salmon Adventure).

Island County Beach Watchers - Part of WSU Extension Service, trained volunteers help protect the environment of Island County & Puget Sound through education & public awareness. Activities include the Admiralty Head Lighthouse Interpretive Center, beach monitoring & assessment and community presentations & seminars.

Orca Network - Whidbey-based organization which informs people about the grace and capabilities of Orcinus orca, shares scientific knowledge of the species, and works to protect the whales' natural habitats.

People for Puget Sound - A non-profit group working to protect and restore the health of Puget Sound and the Northwest Straits through education and action. Includes the new Puget Sound Partnership - Governor's Initiative.

Peter Donaldson - a storyteller and performer of Salmonpeople and related curriculum.

Puget Sound Action Team - This partnership defines, coordinates and implements Washington state's environmental agenda for Puget Sound.

The Puget Sound Nearshore Partnership is a large-scale initiative that affords a unique opportunity to tackle some of the foremost habitat restoration needs.

Shared Strategy for Puget Sound - A collaborative effort to coordinate salmon recovery efforts around Puget Sound.

Shore Stewards - Island County shoreline property owners and residents of communities with shared beach access who voluntarily follow 10 guidelines to help create and preserve a healthy shoreline environment for fish, wildlife and birds.

Washington Trout - A nonprofit science-based organization dedicated to the preservation and recovery of wild salmon, trout and other native fish species.

Whidbey Camano Land Trust - Protects our islands' natural habitats and rural lands in partnership with landowners and the broader community.

Salmon Story by Brenda Guiberson - a book on the salmon life cycle and threats to their return including pollution, over fishing and other hazards.

Salmon by Ron Hirschi - a book on the habitat, anatomy, life cycle, behavior and legends of salmon.

Salmon Stream by Carol Reed-Jones - beautifully illustrated book on the life cycle, habitat and interconnections of salmon and other creatures.

Salmon Summer by Bruce McMillan - the story of a native Alaskan who spends the summer fishing, catching, preparing, eating salmon & halibut.

Secrets of the Animal World-Salmon, Tireless Travelers by Andreu Llamas - Full color illustrations and informative text. Special interest pages ask "Did you know?" Maps, diagrams and great visual aids.
